Photo Restoration

Considering Photo Restoration?

Old photographs of people, places or special occasions are often irreplaceable keepsakes. Once damaged, with creases, tears, missing corners, fading, acid & water spots, and acid migration, our fond memories captured with these pictures (if there are no negatives) could be lost forever. Now your precious family heirloom photo can be restored to prime condition, and reprinted to share with all of your friends and family.

Description

I can transform your old, damaged or improperly photographed images into the photo it should be by means of Digital Restoration and Reconstruction. Defaced and torn photographs can be retouched and repaired to reprint. Faded and discolored pictures can be restored to near original appearance. Black and white pictures can also be colorized or tinted. See some of the my examples below.

It is not uncommon for a 135 yr old photo such as the one above show numerous scratches and a large number of acid spots and damages through out the picture. These disfiguring elements have been successfully removed restoring the beauty of the image. Older photos with time, due to the paper used in processing develop an aged sepia appearance from acid migration and UV light fading into the image. I for one have appreciation for the aged look. However, if you would prefer I can restore it to it’s original B&W condition as seen in the little cowboys image.

The cowboy memory shot was nearly trash canned with large rips, cracks and water spots accumulated over the past sixty years. It was the only image available to document this day’s events. Many parts of the image had to be reconstructed but the job turned out a great success. I had also enlarged the shot to print twice it’s original size.

The photo of the young girl climbing appeared to have some liquid spilled on it which covered almost half of the entire photo. Much of the background sky of this picture had to be reconstructed. This is an excellent example of a photo with lost negatives that would have otherwise been lost forever.

The 1938 picture of the soldier was folded to fit in a wallet and littered with small black acid spots. Besides a copy of the image used in a newspaper article, it was the only copy of this photo available. Today it’s an 8 by 10″ portrait.

Sometimes you have the perfect portrait and just need enhancement and cropping to get it right. In the photo of the bride objects (arm and car window) were removed, lighting and artistic effects were used to augment the subject and the photo was then cropped and enlarged to the best frame. This photo is a preliminary study to establish composition for an oil portrait.

When specific in your instructions, I can also digitally remove or replace just about anything to your original photo such as: people, cars, and backgrounds. I can zoom in and crop the subject and remove excess background or even manipulate the image to look like a painting, sketch or anything else you would prefer to print from the image(s) you provide. Got a good photo that needs work? Let me see if I can help.

The Process

Sending me the image via attached email: You can send a copy of a digital photo or scan your image on a flat bed scanner to 300 dpi resolution and save it in RGB mode using JPEG format. This is important to make adjustments to your picture for your desired print size. (Note; Keep in mind, the more accurate the image is you send me the better your results will be) This way you can send me your attached image(s) with detailed instructions with your email so I can start working on it right away. This would be the best way to send an image if you have a time limit to have the finished photo. This method can also assist with any inquiries you may have. The only hindrance with this method would be the quality of the scan and restrictions for the file size you can send with your internet provider.

Sending me the image via USPS mail:
This is the best way to assure the quality of the item produced. If you do not own a scanner and/or you are not familiar with this process, you can place your image securely between two pieces of cardboard to protect it from folds, and mail it to my address with the detailed instructions of changes to be made. Send a request below and I’ll give you an address to receive it.

Once your image has been restored:
I will email you to let you know it’s available to mail with a watermarked copy of your restored photo to view. Inquire about larger sizes or additional photos at additional cost. I can also burn on a CD for printing upon request.  Once completed and payment is received, your new and original photo is returned in the mail to you.
